Wraeclast has been a mess in the best way since "Fate of the Vaal" landed, and patch 0.4 ("The Last of the Druids") didn't just sprinkle in new enemies—it shoved endgame planning back into the spotlight. The first time I walked in geared up with a fresh set of PoE 2 Items, I still got that old stomach-drop feeling, like the game was daring me to slip once and pay for it. Seeing the Red Queen holding court in a cleaner, meaner Temple of Atziri isn't nostalgia bait; it's a reminder that this place was never meant to be fair.

Finding Your Way In
The loop starts simple. You chase down the glowing Vaal Beacons out in the zones, clear the corrupted packs, light the crystals, and stack enough to crack open the Vaal Ruins. Then you hit the Temple Console and suddenly it's chess, not hack-and-slash. People love getting fancy with routes, and yeah, I've done it too—snaking corridors everywhere, trying to "optimize." It usually ends the same way: decay catches up and you're staring at a busted layout. Straight lines win more often than clever lines, and you'll feel it when rooms actually survive long enough to matter.

Room Strategy That Actually Holds Up
The real goal is pushing rooms to Tier 3, because Tier 1 and Tier 2 are basically you paying rent. Tier 3 is where the temple starts paying you back. Those green synergy flashes are the best kind of dopamine—especially when you're lining up a Thaumaturge Lab for double-corrupt gem shenanigans or a Spymaster's Study to lock things down with a Juatalotli Medallion. The trick I've learned is to stop "fixing" a run mid-run. Commit early. If your core path is solid, you can pivot a room or two without the whole board collapsing.

Decay Changes and the Atziri Reality Check
Patch 0.4.0c made the system feel less spiteful. Halving the decay penalty on the Architect and trimming Atziri's decay impact by 25% means you're not watching your best work crumble after one bad boss moment. When you finally open the Royal Access Chamber, the fight's still a stress test. Phase two Flameblasts don't care about your pride, and the blood spears will punish sloppy resists. If you get greedy, you die. If you stay calm and delete the clones fast, you get that ridiculous loot burst—stuff like Atziri's Rule or a Drillneck that can turn projectile builds into lawnmowers.

Of course, getting to the point where you can eat a Storm Call or keep your damage steady through the chaos takes real investment, and crafting isn't cheap in PoE 2. Sometimes you've got time to grind; sometimes you don't, and you just want to take a swing at an upgrade without bankrupting your stash. That's why I keep an eye out for cheap PoE 2 Items when I'm trying to keep momentum between temple attempts, because nothing kills the vibe faster than a perfect layout and zero resources to actually capitalize on it.
