Greater Jeweller's Orbs in Path of Exile 2 turn basic skill gems into reliable 5-links, letting your main skill scale damage, clear and defenses fast so you can smash through late campaign and jump into red maps confidently.
That moment when your damage suddenly falls off as you leave the campaign and step into early maps in Path of Exile 2 feels awful, and it happens to a lot of players who do not plan ahead for links or supports; that is exactly where the Greater Jeweller's Orb comes in, and if you are the type who likes to speed things up with sites like U4GM for game currency or items, this upgrade lines up perfectly with that same "no time wasted" mindset.
Why Greater Jeweller's Orb Is Such A Big Deal
Instead of begging a chest piece to hit a 6-link like in the old game, Greater Jeweller's Orb just adds a fourth support slot on your main skill gem, which basically turns it into a budget 5-link setup that you can reach around level 45 when these orbs start dropping. You do not need to sit there spamming fusings, you just right click the orb, hit your core skill, and instantly unlock room for another real multiplier support, which is usually the single biggest spike you get before proper endgame gear comes online. It feels a bit strange the first time, because you are used to thinking about links on armour, but once you play with a gem that has three supports attached and then add a fourth, the difference in map clear and boss kill speed is obvious.
Farming Spots And Atlas Setup
If you are trying to target farm these orbs, just cruising random maps and hoping is not great; you want T8 and higher Waystones in Grass Biomes like Crimson Temple or Augury Map, with the Local Knowledge node on the Atlas Tree picked up because it gives a big boost to drops there. From there you stack pack size and item quantity, pushing the map as hard as your build can reasonably survive, and if your character is sturdy enough, you throw in Breach or Delirium layers to flood the map with monsters. On a half decent build, once you get used to the layout and keep the maps rolling, it is pretty normal to end up with a handful of Greater Jeweller's Orbs each hour, and bosses like Zarokh, the Temporal are worth hunting since they tend to shower you in extra currency and special drops when you kill them quickly.
Currency Exchange And Early Access
Not everyone enjoys pure drop hunting, so the Currency Exchange becomes very handy once you reach Act 3 and can start setting orders, because you can pick Greater Jeweller's Orb as your target and offer Chaos or Exalted Orbs in return. A lot of players underbid by default, but if you nudge your offer just a little higher than the going rate, usually by one or two units, you tend to get matched almost instantly, which is way smoother than whispering ten different people in trade chat or on an external site. If you are playing SSF, you still have at least one guaranteed shot at this upgrade through the Act 4 quest reward, so it is worth planning which build you want online first before you claim it.
How To Use It Without Wasting Value
When you finally have a Greater Jeweller's Orb in your stash, resist the temptation to throw it on some side skill; you right click the orb, click your main damage skill gem like Lightning Arrow or Seismic Trap or whatever your build is built around, and use that fourth slot for a serious support such as Increased Critical Strikes, Elemental Focus, or another damage gem that actually fits your scaling. The damage jump is big enough that T10 bosses start melting and the path toward T16 maps opens up fast, and you do all of this without risking the gem at all, unlike Vaal Orbs which can brick an uncut gem and set you back. Make sure you sort your gem quality first, think about how you want to handle later corruption for 6-links, and keep building up the rest of your resources, because a strong main skill backed by a healthy stash of POE 2 Currency puts you in a great spot for pushing deeper into the endgame. |
